Capo's Song Views

Capo has 4 different Song Views. These different views let you mark up your songs with information that will help you learn and practice playing songs.

1. Practice

This Song View is focused primarily on playback. The song’s waveform takes up the bulk of the window, and you may optionally display chords and tablature below it.

You may edit the chord entries while in this view, but not the tablature if it is displayed.

2. Tabbing (only available on macOS)

The Tabbing Song View is where you’ll transcribe the notes in your songs with the help of the spectrogram display. The waveform is still visible in this view, but it mostly serves to orient you to the song using its timeline display, and any regions or markers you have placed.

3. Structure

  • NOTE: In order to have access to this Song View on Mac, you must be running macOS 11 Big Sur or later or iOS 14 or later on your iOS devices.

This Song View lets you see and mark up your songs at a high level—bar by bar—to define the sections of the song. Mark the Verse, Chorus, A Section, B Section, or use whatever names you choose! You can also apply colors to the sections to help you identify similar ones.

Many users will be excited to learn that Song View also allows you to edit Capo’s beat grid that’s used to power Capo’s snapping and metronome features. By clicking along with the beat to mark the start of each bar, you can replace Capo’s detected beats with your own. You can also change the number of beats in specific bars when you’re working with songs that have mixed time signatures, and make fine adjustments to improve precision.

4. Chords

  • NOTE: In order to have access to this Song View on Mac, you must be running macOS 11 Big Sur or later or iOS 14 or later on your iOS devices.

The Chords Song View is a vertically-scrolling look at the chords in your song and displays more chords on screen at the same time. It also uses the sections you defined in the Structure song view to group the chords according to the section they belong in.

This is an excellent way for chord-oriented musicians that are looking to analyze a song’s overall harmony, or those that want a better view of what’s coming ahead.

You can also use the keystrokes shown in the menu to switch between views using your keyboard.

On iOS:

At the top of your screen you’ll find the current Song View displayed underneath the Project’s title. Tapping on this control reveals a menu that allows you to choose between Capo’s song views. Your choice of Song View controls what is displayed in the Song Area.
