Add a forced chord creation based on signature

I have capo read a new song. Then I edit it to make sections in structure and then I like to edit each measure to make things prettier to me.

Obviously pretty to me may not mean anything to others. But just some ideas.

  1. Allow it to work as it does now if preferred.
  2. Or Allow system to force the addition of a chord “add” for specified beats.
(So for example for 4/4 allow user to specify add a chord on 1,3 or maybe even even allow beats 1,2,3,4. Or just 1. And if it the same unchained chord… I want it to repeat on specified beats Anyway. I find that this cleans up the chord chart view a LOT.)
  3. Allow you to manually mark the first measure/Beat… and then be able to trigger a re-analysis so it will Reread and add all chords At each specified beat based on your newly marked start measure/Beat.
  4. Add a “Lock” so you cant retrigger a reread unless you first unlock.

These are some great ideas—thanks for the feedback!

Fortunately, they’re not too far off from some improvements I’ve been planning for the Chords song view. In your 2nd point, you mention:

I want to unpack this a bit to make sure I understand it. What I hear is that you want to set two “Preferences” for how Capo behaves:

  1. Don’t show chord changes anywhere but the 1st and 3rd beat.
  2. Always show a chord at the start of each bar—even if it hasn’t changed. So, rather than |G C| | |, you want to see |G C |C |C |. (And even if you set “chords on 1,3” you don’t want to see |G C |C C |C C |, correct?)
  3. It’s important that the chords don’t just appear next to each other, but they should also light up on the right beats.

Does that sound right?

The 3rd and 4th points—dealing with a flexible beat grid, and a lock/unlock mode—are where lots of complexity lives, though. I have some ideas kicking around that could eliminate (or at least hide) some of that trouble.
