Controlling the Audio Freezer

There’s a “secret feature” that we introduced in the 4.4 update along with the keyboard and MIDI bindings, and it’s hiding in the list of commands you can trigger.

The Audio Freezer

When you scrub the waveform during playback on iOS, or drag the playhead on macOS, you’ve heard the audio freezer in action. Effectively, Capo is playing the audio frozen at “0% speed” while you interact with the playhead position, and if you hold it in one spot you can hear a tiny slice of the song played as long as you hold the playhead steady.

New Activation Options

Now you can now bind a keyboard or MIDI command to trigger this feature whenever you want! For example, you can bind the ‘F’ key on the keyboard to toggle the freezer on/off whenever you press it:

You could also set discrete keyDown and keyUp bindings so that the freezer is activated on keyDown, and then deactivated on keyUp. However, these will be less useful if you want notes to keep playing while you’re using your hands to find where they are on the instrument.

Note for iPhone and iPad Users

If you don’t have a bluetooth keyboard or MIDI device that you can configure to trigger the freezer, you won’t be able to get much out of these instructions right now. However, I hope to address this in a future update—stay tuned!
