One of the uses i give capo is slowing down a guitar solo , looping it section by section and its incredibly useful… but if I could import a video where you can see which part of the neck the guitar player and see his hand positioning it would be mind blowing . Anyway… theres my feedback. cheers… i’ve been an capo user for years on my mac and ipad.
Also would find this useful. SoundSlice does an interesting job making this work on the web. It would be useful even if the video is dropped in quality or otherwise modified, as I understand it’s a whole different game trying to do what Capo does with audio in a video context.
yeah… im a frequent user of soundslice since its what jamtrackcentral.com uses. But sometimes (or very frequently) you find someone playing something great on facebook or instragram… you download the video and just wish capo could “soundslice” it.
I agree, it would certainly be a neat feature that I’d love to tackle!
You hit the nail right on the head. It’s not impossible per-se, but my attempts to build this have—so far—been fruitless.
From what I can gather, I have to take Capo’s audio engine (which is similar in spirit to Logic Pro) and smash it together with (a subset of) the technology that powers Final Cut. But even if this were easy to do, the much, much larger issue is the availability of video.
How do you folks obtain the video files from sites like Instagram, YouTube, etc? Also, is this something you are able to do on your iPhone/iPad, or is it a process you need to run on your Mac?
Hi, theres a bunch sites where you give them the facebook or instagram url of the video and it will download for you in different video formats such mp4 for example. It’s a process I run exclusively on the mac since I need a bigger screen to see the finger movements (getting old now man… had to start wearing glasses for the first time in my life.)
I also do this for audio files from Youtube. It’s true that this is a murky area, and probably why apps that do this are hard to find on iOS.
It’s a total mine field of issues for app developers, and it’s not something I’d ever consider adding. I’m not a fan of the copyright rules, but—as much as it hurts my ability to make my customers happy—I work very hard to play by them. (See that, big music corporations? I’m still being a good boy! Please continue to stay out of my Inbox.)
There was a time when other apps offered built-in web video/audio rippers, and it drove us crazy—we got so many emails from people saying that they wanted the feature in Capo because XYZ app had it, so why not? We kept telling folks that it would be begging for trouble, and we were not interested in gambling with our livelihood.
Sure enough, apps with this functionality were either removed from the store, or—possibly even worse—they had to remove features that their customers paid for. (In some cases I think it was an in-app purchase, and those customers were especially angry.)
Some apps may slip through the cracks, but once this functionality is discovered by the App Store review team it’s game over. But even when such a feature does remain in an app, the developer is basically thumbing their nose at the lawyers working for YouTube, the big music companies, and so on.
If the capo devs have not already done so, they should consider gStreamer open source easy to integrate and work with.
I use to use transcribe before I found this one. Transcribe has the video but this is still much more easier to use and quiet. Even the sound quality is so much cleaner. thank you
Curious, when you say “quiet”, are you referring to noise floor? Are talking about playback engine?
