While I already did release Capo 4.6 for iOS a few weeks back, _the real star_ of the ‘26 OS series updates for Capo is the macOS version.

I know that macOS Tahoe isn’t universally loved by all, but I’m a real big fan of what Apple’s done to the toolbar system. So much so that I thought it was high time that Capo did away with the HUD and Control Strips on the Mac, and went full-on [Mac-assed Mac App](https://daringfireball.net/linked/2020/03/20/mac-assed-mac-apps) for this release!

Here’s the official blog post with a few more details:

Now get back to your regularly scheduled song learning, which I hope is going _at least a little bit better_ today thanks to this update! 🙂

OMG, I _love_ the Freezer button! It’s one of those things I didn’t realize I needed, but yeah, I do.

I wish I could give more than a single heart for that one! It’s one of those features that I’d been meaning to add to Capo for years, but I couldn’t ever find a good “home” for it.\[1\]

Then, while doing my grad studies [on musicians learning by ear](https://supermegaultragroovy.com/products/capo/ear-learning/), I’d discovered how critical the freezer actually was—tonal working memory is _incredibly fragile_, and being able to hear notes held continuously can be a real game changer!

It’s funny, because I always thought of the freezer/scrubbing as a “wouldn’t this be really cool if…” feature, and now I see how it might actually mean the difference between someone actually learning a tune by ear versus giving up on it altogether.

1. I do still need to find a home for it on the HUD, because the iOS version will have to keep that control scheme for a little while longer…

Hi Chris, congrats! I like the new interface and I appreciate that you’re actively working on Capo!

I have an observation, hopefully something easy to add…

I need to see where my tempo setting is at. For example I step the tempo down in decrements of 5 when I’m learning a song. Glancing at the toolbar just gives me the current tempo with no bearing on how slow I have it or how far from 100% I am. I would very much like to see the percentage value displayed please? Just “75%” or whatever it is.

Thank you!

James

In the popover, you can un-check the “Show Tempo” checkbox to swap the tempo and percentage. That’ll put the percentage in the toolbar, and the tempo down underneath the slider. (There’s also a similar checkbox in the transpose controls.)
